Hello everyone, I am looking for replacement parts for the damaged drawers of my IKEA Brimnes system. Unfortunately, one drawer’s sliding rail is warped, and another has a side panel that is slightly cracked, affecting its functionality. Since I don’t want to replace the entire drawer, I am interested in whether there are specialized suppliers that offer individual Brimnes replacement parts—meaning not complete sets. It would also be helpful to know how IKEA’s support handles this, whether they provide individual parts, and what experiences you have had with alternative suppliers or repair solutions. Thank you in advance for any information and advice!

Hello Rumepin, your issue is quite clearly outlined and actually quite specific – which makes it much easier to provide advice. At IKEA, they generally offer replacement parts, but availability strongly depends on the product’s age. The Brimnes system is still current, but IKEA usually only supplies parts that are still available from the manufacturer. So, when contacting customer service, they often recommend replacing entire modules rather than individual components.

Regarding the drawer slide rails: most drawers run on standard rails that can theoretically be purchased separately. You can check with IKEA to see if these rails can be ordered on their own. In online support, you enter the product number, and it shows which replacement parts are available. It’s important to have the exact item number ready.

Alternatively, there are third-party suppliers that sell universal drawer slides, but these are not always compatible – dimensions and mounting points can differ. In this case, precise measurements of length, width, and mounting hole distances are essential.

A torn side panel is more problematic: IKEA does not sell side panels as spare parts. Repairing with wood glue and possibly attaching a reinforcing piece is a practical solution. You could also consider finding a used drawer on online marketplaces and salvaging individual parts from it.

One more question: Is it the white Brimnes (the most common), or a different color/variant? This often affects parts availability, especially for stock items.

If you like, I can also outline how to request replacement parts step by step from IKEA customer service.

Thank you for the detailed reply! Yes, it is the white Brimnes system, model year around 2021. The running rails are definitely bent, which makes the drawer difficult to open and close.

Your suggestion about ordering individual parts from IKEA sounds promising – I will look up the exact product number this weekend and then try to order just the running rails.

Regarding the side panel, the damage is located exactly where the load from frequent opening occurs, so a “repair” probably wouldn’t be long-lasting. A replacement would make more sense, but as you said, IKEA likely doesn’t offer these parts individually. I hadn’t considered looking for used parts yet, that sounds like a good idea.

I would appreciate a step-by-step guide for ordering replacement parts through customer service. Also, any experiences regarding how flexible or supportive IKEA’s service is in such cases would be helpful. Thanks again!

Here is a structured approach for targeted spare part procurement at IKEA based on your description:

- Locate the product number: You can find this on the IKEA website under the item or on the assembly instructions. For Brimnes drawers, it is usually an 8-digit number.
- Contact IKEA customer service: via hotline or through the website (contact form).
- Provide the product number and a description of the damage (e.g., bent runner, torn side panel).
- Inquire about available spare parts and specifically mention individual components (e.g., runners, side panel).
- Be prepared to accept alternative solutions if individual parts are not available (e.g., replacement of the entire drawer).
- Ask about prices and shipping options.

Regarding support: IKEA generally tries to offer spare parts even if individual components are rarely available. Response times vary but are mostly within 3-5 business days.

A specific note: replacing damaged runners is often easier than panels or wood boards, which are usually only available as complete assemblies.

I recommend always having photos ready, even if you cannot upload them here, to better illustrate the situation to customer service.

If the drawer slide is bent, it can quickly cause functional problems.

As a small addition: Sometimes it’s also worth checking the screws that hold these drawer slides in place. If they are loose or rusted, this can also affect the smooth operation. Carefully tightening them can make a big difference.

Regarding the side panel: If you are considering repairing it yourself, try using wood glue and small metal angle brackets from the inside to increase stability. This won’t last forever, but it should give you more time to find the ideal replacement parts.

Also: Some people have had good experiences with surplus stock or clearance items at furniture stores. Occasionally, there are spare parts or display models available that can be used as replacements.
