Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I purchased a Malm chest of drawers from IKEA and now I’m wondering how long the warranty on Malm furniture actually lasts. Specifically, I’m interested in whether the warranty period is the same for all Malm products and if there are any differences between the various types of furniture (for example, desks, dressers, or beds). Additionally, I would like to know how IKEA handles the warranty when it comes to wear parts or damage caused by normal use.

Perhaps someone here has experience or knows the exact terms? I would appreciate detailed and as precise information as possible, as I want to be sure what to expect in case of any issues.

The warranty for Malm furniture from IKEA generally lasts 10 years. This applies to most product categories, including dressers, desks, and beds. It is important to note that the warranty primarily covers material and manufacturing defects.

Yes, IKEA usually offers the same warranty period for all furniture in the Malm series. Differences might occur if products are made from different materials, but this is rare. It is also important to understand that wear and tear from normal use, such as scratches or abrasion, is not covered by the warranty.

In such cases, IKEA typically denies warranty claims because this is not a production defect but normal wear. However, if the damage is due to a fault in the material or workmanship, the warranty does apply.

It is advisable to keep receipts and the purchase slip to be able to make a claim. Overall, the 10-year warranty at IKEA is quite generous compared to other furniture suppliers.

Hello aramtan,

I would like to provide a more detailed answer to your question. The 10-year warranty on Malm furniture, as already mentioned, covers material and manufacturing defects. This warranty applies to all pieces in the series, whether dressers, beds, or desks.

From my own experience, I know that IKEA takes this warranty seriously. This means that if a component breaks that is not due to normal wear and tear, you can request replacement parts or have the furniture repaired.

That is exactly how it works, and it is completely standard. However, especially with heavily used furniture, minor damages may sometimes not be covered by the warranty. In such cases, IKEA usually offers goodwill solutions, but this is not a warranty claim.

I would recommend that if you are unsure, you contact IKEA directly to clarify the situation individually, as there can sometimes be slight variations depending on the product batch or retailer.

I hope this helps you!

That’s great, getting such long warranties on furniture! :-)

Especially for Malm products, it’s a big reassurance since they are often used a lot.

That’s why I also recommend: If you have a defect, definitely contact IKEA and don’t hesitate to make a claim! It’s fantastic that they are so accommodating!

Good luck to everyone with your furniture, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly! 🙂

Exactly, and to summarize again: The Malm furniture comes with a 10-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects.

Wear and tear, accidental damage, or improper use are excluded. For most consumers, this is a long period.

If you have any questions or problems, contact IKEA immediately.
