Hello everyone,
I would like to start a discussion on the topic: What are the best DIY solutions for expanding my IKEA Pax storage or creating additional storage space inside it? I already have a basic model but find that the space is not quite enough, and I would like to know which extensions or modifications you have had good experiences with. I am mainly interested in practical, easy-to-implement ideas that add extra compartments, drawers, or other clever solutions—preferably without having to buy entirely new furniture. How have you customized or enhanced your Pax? Do you have tips for optimal use of the interior space or for exterior cladding to create extra storage or organization? I look forward to your contributions and advice!

I experienced something similar: the storage space eventually wasn’t sufficient anymore, and I wanted to create more order without making major purchases. What helped me a lot were custom-built intermediate shelves and installing wooden plank shelves at various heights. This way, you can adjust the shelf heights to your own needs, which truly makes a difference.
Sometimes I also used small boxes inside the Pax to group loose items – this helps keep things organized. Additionally, I added a few hooks on the side walls, which you can attach with a few screws, to hang belts or bags.
What I initially found challenging was measuring and drilling holes precisely, but with patience, it works out. I understand why some people might be hesitant, but it’s definitely worth it because you gain a lot of flexibility and can tailor the storage to your specific needs.

I love DIY projects with Pax! These modular drawer boxes that you simply place inside are especially brilliant – so flexible and incredibly practical! 😊
Recently, I cut and painted small shelves from plywood myself. This opens up completely new possibilities inside. You can even build removable dividers if you want to store items of different sizes. It’s really fun and brings a huge amount of organization!
Definitely give it a try; it’s very motivating to see how you can customize your wardrobe perfectly!

Regarding DIY extensions for the Pax system, it is advisable to consider the following points:
- Use of hanging hooks and rails for flexible usage
- Additional shelves made of sturdy material to adjust compartment heights
- Use of custom-made drawer inserts for organizing the interior of the cabinet
- Hanging systems to utilize the inside of doors for small items
- Consideration of the maximum load capacity when adding extensions
This way, storage space can be increased individually without altering the basic structure. DIY work requires precise measurements and properly fitting components to ensure stability and functionality.
