Hello everyone, I’m currently facing the challenge of assembling the IKEA Platsa wardrobe in a corner of a room, making sure it fits perfectly and is stable. The instructions are okay, but I find it difficult, especially with corners, to properly align the side panels and securely attach the back panels so that there are no gaps and the wardrobe doesn’t wobble. It would be particularly helpful to know any practical tips or tricks that have proven useful when assembling in corners, especially regarding the fastening and alignment of the modules to achieve a smooth surface and clean edges. Are there any experiences or advice on both preparing the parts and the step-by-step assembly? Thanks in advance!
First of all: Assembling the PLATSA in a corner is definitely a bit more challenging than placing it in an open area if you want to work precisely. Here is a brief guide with important points that are often overlooked:
- Measure the corner angle carefully, not only with a protractor but also check if the walls actually meet at 90° – small deviations are common.
- Trim the back panels if necessary, in case the corner is not exactly square, so they fit flush.
- Assemble the modules separately first, except for the back panel, as it determines the alignment.
- Position the modules in the corner and check with a spirit level.
- Connect the modules using the supplied connecting screws and screw anchors provided by IKEA, but tighten them firmly only after the final alignment.
- Use wooden wedges or thin cardboard strips as spacers to compensate for any gaps.
These steps worked very well for me. The most important thing is not to try to do everything in one go, but to work module by module and make adjustments as needed.

Assemble the modules separately at first, except for the back panel, since it determines the alignment.I don’t think that’s the best approach. Especially with IKEA PLATSA, the back panel is often the only part that provides long-term stability. It should actually be attached and aligned correctly from the start – otherwise, you’ll have more effort later because the modules can warp. That’s exactly the point: stability through the back panel, not having to fix things later with shims.
And if you use cardboard strips or small wedges for alignment, that should really be only temporary – leaving them permanently can cause damage to the furniture and look unattractive.
My advice: measure precisely, install the back panels in the correct order, and don’t cut corners when tightening screws.
I think the PLATSA is a very flexible system, even for corners! Here’s what really helped me:
- First, sort all the screws and parts before starting assembly.
- Working with a second person makes a big difference! One holds the modules while the other screws them together.
- If you test the modules in the corner without the back panel first and properly level them with a spirit level, it gives you a better overview.
Don’t hesitate to take your time – it definitely pays off. And small adjustments are completely normal. So keep your spirits up – you’ll do great!
