Hello everyone,
I have been using the Kallax shelving system for a while and am familiar with the issue: even if you clean the compartments regularly, dust tends to settle again quite quickly. Since the compartments are open, keeping them dust-free on a permanent basis seems to be difficult.
Therefore, I’m interested to know if anyone in this forum has tips on how to keep Kallax compartments truly dust-free—meaning you don’t have to wipe them down every week?
I have already considered using special inserts or covers, but I would like to know if there are practical, elegant solutions that don’t interfere too much with the appearance and are easy to implement.
Looking forward to your experiences and suggestions!

Hello,
I would like to provide a structured answer because the topic of keeping Kallax compartments dust-free involves several aspects.
1. Doors or inserts: As mentioned before, Kallax units can be complemented with suitable glass doors or sliding inserts from IKEA. These effectively protect against dust, although they do change the appearance and access somewhat.
2. Dust control measures: Even if you do not want to use doors, regularly wiping the compartments with an antistatic microfiber cloth helps. Microfiber attracts dust well and prevents it from swirling around.
3. Removing dust collectors: The fewer decorative and open items inside, the less dust will settle. An organized layout can help.
4. Improving air quality: Sometimes the dust load in the room is high due to air quality. An air purifier or regular ventilation can be useful.
Summary: To keep the compartments dust-free over time, doors or inserts are usually necessary. Otherwise, regular wiping with a microfiber cloth and optimized indoor air quality help. Hope this is helpful!

I also have the problem with dust – and to be honest: only a combination of regular, quick dusting and the occasional use of a nice, semi-transparent cloth helps me. It really looks better than having doors all the time, and you still keep the open character.

Maybe just put small, attractive boxes inside the compartments to store things. The boxes keep dust away from the contents, and you simply wipe the surface of the box.
That’s how I keep my Kallax dust-free enough, without pure frustration. 🙂
