Hello everyone, I have an issue with my IKEA KALLAX shelf, specifically with the inserts for the compartments. These inserts keep slipping down or sideways inside the KALLAX compartments, which causes clutter because the items inside don’t stay neatly in place. This makes it difficult to use and leaves the space disorganized.

I have already tried tightening the inserts and securing them with cloths to prevent slipping, but nothing has held up permanently. Maybe someone here in the forum has a practical solution or helpful tips on how to keep the inserts from shifting inside the KALLAX compartments for good? I would appreciate any suggestions, including homemade fixes or ideas for materials to use. Thanks in advance!

Rubber adhesive profile on the edges of the inserts increases friction and prevents slipping.

The issue with the KALLAX inserts is well known, as they often do not fit the compartments precisely and tend to slip under their own weight. A proven solution is to place self-adhesive non-slip mats underneath. Alternatively, foam strips can be applied at the points where the inserts contact the shelf walls to improve stability. It is important that the material remains flexible and does not stick permanently, so the insert can be removed at any time.

Sure, everyone knows the standard tips. But honestly: why doesn’t IKEA make these inserts slip-resistant from the start? Apparently, they don’t bother because they can just shift the need for immediate retrofitting onto the customer. A true DIY enthusiast should look for alternatives instead of constantly applying temporary fixes.

You can also stick small felt pads under the inserts. This creates spacing and provides adhesion at the same time, so they usually stay in place.

Anyone who wants can also experiment with double-sided tape. It holds well for me but can also be removed again if necessary.
