MOHAMEDNAU9 Feb 2023 08:23Hello everyone,
I am planning to secure an Ikea Pax wardrobe to wooden floors but am unsure of the best way to do this without damaging the floor. The challenge is that I want to firmly fix the wardrobe to prevent tipping or sliding, especially in homes with young children. At the same time, I absolutely want to avoid scratching or damaging the wooden floor with screws, anchors, or other fastening methods.
Does anyone have experience or practical tips on how to attach an Ikea Pax to wooden flooring without harming it? Are there specific fastening materials or techniques (e.g., protective pads, special screws, or alternative methods) that have proven effective? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, especially if there are options that combine both non-residue removal and stability.
Thank you in advance!

Hello Mohamednau,
Your question is very precise, and the topic is quite important, especially when it comes to protecting wooden floors. In general, it is advisable not to screw directly into the floor, as wooden floors are sensitive.
A proven method is to attach small brackets with pre-drilled holes on the right and left sides of the cabinet frame, which are then secured to the wall. This ensures stability while protecting the floor. To prevent the cabinet from sliding on the wood, you can stick felt pads or non-slip mats under the feet. These prevent scratches and provide some friction.
If it is not possible to secure the cabinet to the wall, you could also consider adding weights inside the lower part of the cabinet to prevent tipping. This way, you avoid putting mechanical stress on the floor.
Hope this helps!

Hello Mohamednau,
I can fully support Ianlau’s thoughts. Especially with wooden floors, it is really important to avoid heavy loads or mechanical fastenings directly on the subfloor.
Additionally, you can use rubber or silicone pads under the feet of the Pax. These absorb vibrations and distribute the weight more evenly.
One more tip: If you attach the wardrobe to the wall, make sure to check in advance whether the wall is load-bearing enough. If wall mounting is not possible, heavier floor protectors and underlay mats are recommended.
Good luck!

Could you please explain in more detail how to do this without affecting the cabinet’s functionality? I have several compartments and drawers inside that need to remain usable. What kind of weights would be suitable, and how can I securely attach them without damaging or altering the furniture?
