Stefan6742257820 Jun 2024 08:28Hello,
Unfortunately, during the new build phase, we didn’t put much thought into some rooms and initially chose a simple approach. In hindsight, that was a mistake. We don’t like our guest bathroom at all. It’s too much light on light. In the rest of the house, we chose mostly gray/black and oak. We want to carry that style into the bathroom as well.
Attached are a few pictures since we’re not entirely sure how to do this best. For one, I would like to install two small 16cm (6 inch) ceiling speakers and indirect lighting. For that, I was thinking of a cove above the sink.
The wall underneath could then be covered with acoustic panels, possibly black or oak.
The mirror and vanity cabinet will also be replaced.
But especially regarding the cove, I’m not sure how to design it or if it will even look good.
So my question is, what do you think? Any ideas or alternative suggestions?
PS: I can run power for the cove and speaker cables through the wall, on the other side is the utility room.

I can’t say anything about the electricity.
However, one could also say that a bright room creates a nice contrast to the other rooms.
In my opinion, the acoustic panels don’t fit well with all the existing surfaces like plaster, tile, chrome edges, and glass.
It is generally more appealing to keep the floor or baseboard darker than the upper areas.
In this case, I would simply paint with a taupe shade that matches or is slightly lighter than the tiles in tone.
A larger mirror with a black frame could also work well.

It is too bright with bright colors.

This is a nice bathroom, and I wouldn’t complain too much about it.
Personally, I might start by painting and see how it looks afterward. I’m a fan of dark green shades—they could look great. Then maybe add acoustic panels or other accents. I personally find that quite nice, but I’m not sure how well it would match the tiles. I would make the mirror larger and with a black frame. That would also go well with your black power outlets.
For speakers, I would just buy a Sonos One or something similar. At first, I would get some paint swatches and see which colors harmonize well with the tiles.

I share the same view as @jrth2151... I actually find the bathroom quite nice. It’s best to start by making simple changes to match the desired style.
Regarding ceiling speakers... please do not just run power from one room to another if these are on different circuit breakers (or worse, on separate RCDs)! This can lead to serious issues when repairs or modifications become necessary, which happens more often than expected.
Again, I recommend using Sonos or similar systems... they are easier to replace. Ceiling speakers usually don’t deliver great sound quality (by comparison) and can be anything but simple or inexpensive to install. With something like Sonos, you can just discard the unit if it breaks and replace it with the latest model. With ceiling speakers, you’d have to find a suitable replacement, which might only be available at twice the original price, or something like that...

Feldblick_20253 Jul 2024 12:55I actually find your guest bathroom quite stylish. I truly think that a black-framed mirror makes a big difference, and possibly some other black decorative elements as well. If something still feels missing, I would personally consider repainting first.
I can only recommend Sonos. We have it in every room. Great sound, easy to use, and no annoying cables to deal with.
