According to the soil report, we have two options for the foundation.

Option 1: Slab foundation with a 25 cm (10 inches) thick concrete slab and a 80 cm (31 inches) thick bedding layer beneath it. Drainage beneath the bedding layer is not necessary.

Option 2: Concrete slab with strip footings, featuring a 16 cm (6 inches) thick slab. Drainage is not required.

Which of these two options would you choose?
We are completely unsure :-(

Thank you in advance.

I believe that with option 1, it is easier to install insulation underneath the slab if desired. For our build, option 2 was used. Why? Because that’s what the structural engineer specified...

Request quotes for the different options. I suspect option 1 will be significantly more expensive, but depending on the ground conditions, it does seem to be the better solution.

We are completely at a loss :-(

We generally work only with the first option; maybe that helps you.

I don’t really understand the question. Did you buy a piece of a house including the slab, are you planning to build a single-family house and need to outsource the slab work? Or are you awarding the individual trades via an architect’s tender? Do you have professional support? Following that, the further question is: which slab-related services have already been contractually agreed upon? With the options above, don’t forget that option “2” is significantly cheaper, so there is a financial difference compared to option “1.”
