The attentive user knows that I am not only referring to my gas price increase. See https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/gaspreiserhoehung-zum-1-1-2022.41836/
The switch was successfully completed on 01.01.22 (January 1, 2022). Tomorrow, the direct debit authorization will be signed and sent.
But today we received an email from the old supplier: they are terminating our contract as of 02.12.2031 (December 2, 2031) and stopping the supply immediately.

We hereby terminate the existing gas supply contract between us as of 02.12.2021 (December 2, 2021). On this date, we have stopped the supply of gas.

If you have received a price change from us with effect after 02.12.2021 (December 2, 2021), please consider it invalid.

As you may have seen in the media coverage, we have been facing an unprecedented price explosion at the European energy trading markets for several weeks, caused by an extraordinary combination of various factors.

The situation on the European natural gas market is particularly drastic. Recently, the gas prices for deliveries during the upcoming winter period have spiked by more than 400% on the procurement markets at peak levels.
😱
From now on, we are insured by law... uh... forcibly supplied — basic supply and legally guaranteed.

Now I understand some of the reactions here…!
Are you also looking at around 140 to 150 square meters (1500 to 1600 square feet)? I have the house itself in mind… thermal insulation thing… air-source heat pump or similar.

We do have a lot of LEDs, but also halogen lights, TV, and computers running… so we pay about €85 (if not €73… one of those figures is correct) for our electricity (not including heating). Then, our gas costs are below the average electricity consumption for modern heating systems 😱

No, as I said, we have a smart meter, so I know that from our €185 (EUR) monthly payment, about €15 is the fixed fee, and approximately €53.25 is for heating and hot water (air-to-water heat pump).
The remaining €115 is due to our indulgent lifestyle, shame on me. 😉
I’m not too surprised by this, since it roughly matches the electricity consumption in our old house, which had gas heating.

Using gas makes it harder to be truly sustainable, since gas is by nature mostly fossil-based and harmful 😀 And 100% biogas probably costs significantly more.

Ecologically sustainable biogas is hardly produced at all. In my opinion, it’s not really organic when you harvest crops from the field just to feed them into the plant.

Starting April 1st, I have a contract with EnviaM at 25.76c/kWh (cents per kilowatt-hour) and a monthly base fee of €10.71 (euros). There is a price guarantee for two years.

When it comes to gas, I am overwhelmed by the options. Currently, I am paying around 4.5c/kWh, while our local utility company is the next cheapest at 7.5c/kWh.

I am considering removing the four-year-old heating system and installing a Panasonic heat pump. With an annual performance factor of 3 suitable for older buildings, I break even at about 9 cents per kWh gas price. The cost of purchasing the heat pump is not yet included in this calculation.

For gas, I’m struggling to find a good deal. Currently, I’m paying around 4.5 cents/kWh. Our municipal utility is the next cheapest at 7.5 cents/kWh.

I have been with the electricity provider above for several years. For next year (guaranteed until November 30, 2022), I’m still paying 20.56 cents/kWh gross. I’m curious what will happen after that and glad that I have a cascade control system connected with the photovoltaic system, which also covers some of the heating and domestic hot water electricity demand.

Good choice! At these rates, installing a separate meter for heat pump electricity isn’t worth it.

We have the same setup, but in winter it feels like a drop in the ocean.
In good winter months, we get about 10% from the photovoltaic system and 90% from the grid; in worse months it can be as low as 6%/94%.
Overall, around 14% of our energy for the air-to-water heat pump comes from the photovoltaic system, which is also influenced by the summer months and the energy management that raises the domestic hot water temperature when there is photovoltaic surplus.

We benefit much more from the photovoltaic system in summer, as it can be used to run the air conditioning.
Of course, this might be different if you have a significantly larger photovoltaic system installed.
