Hello dear housebuilding forum,

and here is my first post in this forum :-)

In our current shower, the drain is regularly cleaned with a plunger. Especially the long hair of the lady makes this necessary.

Now for the question: how do you actually clean the drain of a walk-in shower? Here, there is a wide slot instead of a small round drain. A plunger probably won’t be very effective there.

You receive a hook from the plumber, which allows you to lift the grate. Underneath is the channel with the drain, which can now be easily cleaned, even with a plunger.

Additionally, there is a strainer inside. My wife also has long hair.
As mentioned above, remove the grate using a hook, clean the strainer and the channel, and you’re done.
The strainer is placed in a special trap. This can also be removed and cleaned.
This way, you can access the pipe directly. However, this should rarely be necessary.
For example, take a look at ACO. Download the manual/installation guide.

I do now, too... :p

We now also have a gutter with a cover, and something similar is planned for the new house as well.
As Nordlys already mentioned, just lift the hook and grate, very simple.

...then you will find not only hair but also shower gel and shampoo residues. I always clean the channel and the drain with an old toothbrush.
If my wife is annoying, I sometimes use hers too :p
