Good evening,

Our general contractor offers us the geothermal heat pump system with decentralized supply air and centralized exhaust air only.

Is there really no other option, or does he just want to sell it to us this way?
We actually don’t want decentralized supply air because that means having those fans in the walls everywhere, which we simply don’t like.

Thanks in advance.

He wants to make fools of you. The heating system can be combined with any type of ventilation.

Thank you for the quick reply, we will try to have the conversation again.
What is your general opinion on decentralized fresh air supply?

Maybe he just doesn’t have a company in his portfolio that installs central systems and simply doesn’t want to bring in additional expertise.

Because decentralized systems also work. So why “get your hands dirty” and have more work than necessary?

Decentralized, yes, as a retrofit, is okay. Better than no ventilation at all. In new construction, it often causes more problems than it solves.

Yes, there is another way, and yes, he wants to sell HIS product. Maybe because he prefers a specific combination unit and doesn't want to deal with separate devices.
As long as you don’t buy a combined heat pump (whether air source, ground source, or otherwise), you can install whatever you want. Heating and ventilation systems are then separate.

It’s like buying a suit. Either you buy a ready-made combination—jacket and trousers from the same brand—or you mix and match—jacket from Boss and trousers from H&M or C&A or however you like.

Please also address the issue of humidity. Although we have a very high-quality and recently installed system, it is a disaster (it is properly set up and everything). Fortunately, we are now building new, and that would be the last thing I would want to have again.
