Hello everyone,
The preliminary work (chasing/chiseling, etc.) for the electrical installation has started, for now only inside the house.
I still have the opportunity to consider "important" things and/or extras and would like to get tips, ideas, or suggestions from you.
What is already planned:
- Sufficient electrical outlets (in every corner)
- Duplex LAN Cat.7 and satellite connections in every room (except, of course, bathrooms, utility rooms, etc.)
- Connections for access points on both ground floor and upper floor
- Switches and room thermostats
- Preparation for electric roller shutters
I’m only looking for ideas, not exact placement.
Maybe you have some great suggestions to share.
Thanks...

You can also equip yourself with AVM devices.
I have a FritzBox myself, but with Wi-Fi disabled. The Wi-Fi is handled by a Unifi access point. The advantage is that the Unifi access point is powered via PoE, making it much easier to position. Ask your electrician how they would mount the FritzBox on the ceiling, especially in a visually appealing way. AVM devices usually don’t support PoE. Also, AVM doesn’t offer an outdoor access point.
Basically, it is important to stick to one Wi-Fi manufacturer or product line. Clients decide which access point to connect to, but manufacturers have built in some features to support roaming. However, these features don’t yet work across different manufacturers.
PS: I already know why my electrician is only allowed to handle the network cables at most.

A precise location for the weather station hasn’t been discussed yet. Where would you place it?
I would probably install the satellite dish on the facade instead of the roof. Reason: I’m planning to install a photovoltaic system in 2021. In theory, I could mount it directly on the ridge, but that probably wouldn’t look very nice, right?
What about having an outdoor access point? Exposure to moisture? Cold? Are there any experiences with this? I installed my weather station at the top of the mast above the satellite dish. The weather station is about 0.5m (20 inches) above the roof ridge, so I get reasonably accurate measurements there. Since we have shutter blinds (also known as external blinds) installed almost everywhere, they should automatically raise when wind speed reaches a certain threshold.
Ideally, the best position would be completely exposed, but since that is usually not possible, in my opinion the second-best option is above the roof ridge.
You are right, the satellite dish on the roof really looks awful.
Unfortunately, in our housing development there is no wired internet available and only a maximum of 50 Mbps connection.
So I had no choice but to install satellite.

What exactly did you mean by the lightning protection cable? Not the one connected to the foundation earth electrode, right? I might be confusing something. I ran a 10 mm² (0.02 inch²) H07V-U equipotential bonding conductor along the satellite mast.

How about using an access point outdoors? What about moisture and cold? Are there any experiences with this?As Hanse987 already mentioned, the FlexHD is suitable for this. I will probably get one myself. For indoors, the NanoHD is a good choice. Depending on the location and layout of the house, you could mount the access point under the patio roof. I have two access points on the ground floor, one on the upper floor, and one mounted under the patio roof. However, we don’t have a large garden.PS;
Let's see how the access points work out. If everything goes well, we will move in January.
I did the electrical planning myself. Installation and material procurement were done with the help of a friend who is an electrician.
We have pulled a total of 4.2–4.5km (2.6–2.8 miles) of cable.

Hi, I’m interested to know which weather station you installed? I’m still looking for one with a mast mounting option (above the dish), but with LAN connectivity (not just Wi-Fi), preferably also Power over Ethernet (PoE) capable. Also, which integrations are available so we can connect the weather station to an open smart home system...
