Hello and good evening,

I have a problem with the drain in my bathroom.
My apartment consists of two floors.
Upper floor: toilet, shower, and sink.
Lower floor: toilet, bathtub, and sink.

When I moved into the new apartment, I already noticed that the water in the toilet on the upper floor drained poorly, but it was manageable at first.
Since I have a second toilet in the apartment, I avoided using the first one as a precaution.
Over time, the drain of the first toilet became more and more clogged. Now the water drains so slowly that it takes up to two days to empty. I flush regularly, hoping it will clear up eventually.
If I have been away for a while, I sometimes have to flush two to three times before the water starts draining again.

Because I travel a lot for work, I have been postponing dealing with the problem for a year, which is why I feel uncomfortable only informing the landlord now.

Now I have the problem that the shower I use daily has also been draining poorly for the past two weeks.
I have tried everything within my power.
A 3-meter (10-foot) drain snake is not long enough to remove the clog in the toilet, and chemical cleaning agents have never been effective.

What options do I have to clear the drain without having to hire an expensive company?

Why does the toilet sometimes drain faster and sometimes barely at all?

What tricks or methods do professionals use?

I hope you can help me,

thank you in advance

So, I would suspect that your blockage is located further down the line. To be more precise, I would need to see the plans... Based on the amount of water mentioned (flushing 2-3 times) and the standard required pipe diameter, I would estimate the blockage to be about 2.50 m (8 feet) further along the pipe. The only reliable way to find out exactly is probably by using a camera inspection.
...chemical cleaners...

I would only use them with great caution, timing carefully and using plenty of flush water.

Be careful that no plumbing professional reads this ... they would be tearing their hair out; I, myself (trained professional), would do it. I had to ban such products from the household already during the first six months of my training.

Kind regards

What was misunderstood here? I advised against it – or are you reading something different?
