ᐅ Q2 Interior Plaster – What Are the Options?

Good morning everyone,

for our new build, we are currently exploring options for painting the interior walls and ceilings.

We have agreed on and received a plaster finish of level 2 (Q2) on the interior walls (gypsum). To me, the plaster already looks very smooth—typical of a well-executed Q2 finish.

What options are available—apart from textured wallpaper like "Raufaser"—for this Q2 surface, without extensive and especially costly sanding and filling work? There must be a middle ground between textured wallpaper and smooth fleece wallpaper that is affordable yet still looks good?

Thanks for your answers & best regards

what is the fleece supposed to do with settlements? hold the wall together?

It is not meant to crack but to flexibly respond to settlement due to the textile content (unlike paper wallpapers).

We have only primed and painted our Q2 plaster (08/2017). A painter did the priming and also repaired some major defects in the plaster.

So far, we have only the usual cracks between the ceiling (on the upper floor; wooden beam ceiling with drywall) and the walls.

The walls have virtually no cracks. Non-woven fabric was applied to the ceilings on the ground floor and upper floor. I would definitely do it that way again.

There are no cracks in the middle of the wall anyway (if there are, something has gone wrong). Possibly an exception at the roller shutter box above the windows.

The corners will always crack (with or without fleece), meaning you will inevitably have to renew acrylic sealants during the initial period.

Just out of curiosity. What about the outer overhangs of the window sill down to the floor? In all of our rooms, there is a vertical crack running down on both the left and right sides. Is this still considered a fairly typical spot?

No, nothing has happened here. As mentioned, only above the windows on the left and right sides. It was fixed before handover (with additional mesh), but a crack has appeared again.

Painter’s fleece is a flexible term. It is also available in different qualities and weights.
