Hello,
we are currently considering which interior doors to choose.
I would prefer white doors because they are neutral and match everything, but my husband doesn’t like that at all.
Maybe you can inspire me and show what kind of doors you have ; )

So, since we’re installing the flooring ourselves, do we have to lay the floor before fitting the doors? I thought we could take our time and do that last.

YPG, Jude you chose the paint color, right? .

Just a quick off-topic question: how is a sink only 50€ possible?

You can also install the floor covering at the end; we did this in our basement because it would have been too stressful otherwise. However, the door frames need to be installed slightly higher to allow for the thickness of the flooring (possibly plus adhesive for tiles, for example) plus an additional 2–3mm (0.08–0.12 inches) of clearance. Also, especially with click-lock laminate, it can be a bit fiddly. With our tiles in the basement, though, it wasn’t a problem—they could simply be slid under the frame, and there is no visible difference compared to the tiles in other rooms where the flooring was laid before the doors were fitted.

You probably saw in my blog that we painted one room (our gentlemen’s room ) like that?

White doors also stand out nicely against a light gray base wall color as well as all the sandy tones (see above with @Soulcollector )

Of course, I am not familiar with all surface materials, and they have likely improved over time. However, I clearly remember that both in my childhood and before building my house, we often had white doors that would yellow around the handle area. It might be that some people always close the door by pushing on the handle, but in my experience (and as I’ve observed with others), doors are often closed by pushing on the door panel itself, which over time leads to these discolorations that, depending on the surface, are very difficult to remove completely.

Additionally, I find white to be too sterile, even though it obviously matches everything. Saying that wood is just a trend and then suggesting to install expensive real wood flooring (oak, for example) seems somewhat contradictory to me...

Here is one of our doors made of pine...

Light wooden door in a white room, door handle on the right, light switch and power outlet next to it.

We deliberately chose simple CPL-coated white interior doors and stainless steel lever handles; they are easy to maintain and sturdy enough for toddlers. Some walls we left white, others we painted; I create atmosphere with rugs and seasonal decorations.

I think Yvonne means – she will correct me if she has other ideas – that people tend to get tired of colored doors, whether wood or painted, and this limits options for furniture and changes in flooring. Probably similar reasons to why, in my consultations, I generally advise against fully colored windows – with very few exceptions.
