Hello, we need 2 garage doors, each measuring 3005 x 2415 mm (118 x 95 inches).
We requested a quote for Novoferm, around €7000 including installation. That’s not an option...
Now we are considering installing them ourselves.
Globus hardware store would charge about €1900 per door for Hörmann doors.
On Monday, there is a 20% discount on everything. That would bring the price to about €3040.
Would that price be reasonable?
How difficult is the installation?

In case anyone wants a comparison, in 2013 I paid EUR 3300 for the following at a local Hörmann dealer:

2x Hörmann sectional doors LPU M-rib 2500x2375mm (98x94 inches) woodgrain, RAL9016
(woodgrain = wood texture, but in RAL9016 = traffic white, it is practically invisible; LPU = extra insulated; M-rib = large double panels)
2x additional seals "ThermoFrame" including installation
1x emergency release including installation
1x external keypad including installation
1x Hörmann Supramatic operator (fast, quiet, powerful) with remote control, including installation
no external mechanical opening hardware (handles or similar)
installation included (2x 200)

The installation was completed by two fitters in one day and was done neatly. They could have installed a second operator the same day, as they had spare time. However, my second door is always closed and mechanically locked.

I had only pre-installed an aluminum bottom sealing strip (40x20x3 aluminum profile) to ensure a tight seal.

I’ll join the thread here.

I have a quote for:
A sectional door:
Hörmann sectional door LPU40 - steel COLOR
double-walled, 42 mm (1 5/8 inches), L-groove Silkgrain finish
Door size: 5000 x 2125 mm (196.85 x 83.66 inches)
Base surface coating COLOR
Exterior – anthracite gray / similar to RAL 7016

A roller door:
Garage roller door RollMatic - Color -
including motor
Door size: 1500 x 2125 mm (59.06 x 83.66 inches)
(clear opening: 1500 x 2065 mm (59.06 x 81.30 inches))

Fire protection door:
T30 fire-rated steel door Hörmann H3-1 OD

Installation and minor items included: €5821
From a major Hörmann partner.

Is this too expensive? Negotiable to what?

Personally, I am clearly against roller doors, as I subjectively consider them similar to roller shutters both in terms of appearance and function. If I am going to invest, I want it to look good later on. Another important factor is security. Try breaking into a roller door compared to a sectional door – which one do you think would give you more trouble?

I received two good offers from TorDoc GmbH in Cologne: one for a Novoferm sectional door and one for a Teckentrup sectional door, both delivered but excluding installation. The Novoferm doors are apparently a bit better suited for self-installation, as they come with detailed instructions (including pictures). With some DIY skills and a helping friend, you should be able to handle the installation yourself. I would be very cautious with hardware store options, as they often sell doors that are specifically made to be of lower quality. That’s why they may seem very inexpensive at first glance, but we want to get long-term value from our investment and not have to spend money immediately on replacement parts.

Hello,
I am new here and very interested in the reviews of garage doors.
I am looking for a new one and am definitely leaning towards a sectional door. However, I have read that when the door is open, there is only a height clearance of 1.93m (6 ft 4 in) available in an opening that is 2.00m (6 ft 7 in) high.
This would mean I wouldn’t be able to fully open the trunk of my car, or I would always have to close the door first.
The ceiling is high enough to solve this problem differently, but how?
Can anyone give me a tip, or is a roller door really the only option?

Back the car into the garage?

Quick update. We are now getting 2 gates for a total of around €4200 (approximately $4600) including installation. The first quote from another company was €7000 (approximately $7700) with installation. So the search really paid off.
