We are in the process of building a bungalow with a basement. The house is already in place. Now the garage is to be built. It will be attached directly to the house. It will have its own foundation, which will rest on the basement wall of the house. There will be no separate wall between the garage and the house wall. The garage will have a flat roof. Do I need to consider anything regarding thermal bridges there?

Normally, you thermally separate both buildings, which also prevents thermal bridges.

Good evening,
we are currently in the planning phase and would like to have a garage directly attached to the house without a separate wall between them.

The house will be a prefabricated timber frame construction. The house builder will probably charge too much to build the garage together with the house.

Is it possible to build a masonry garage directly attached to the house? What should be taken into consideration? How does the foundation work in this case? Would a concrete slab foundation for the garage be necessary?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Best regards

That will surely cause structural issues with the garage, won’t it? If an entire wall is missing?

Why would a wall be missing?
