Hello
Due to an unfavorable situation with a green space, we only have a 4m (13 feet) wide driveway to the garage on the east side of the house. The rest of the house would fit perfectly with this arrangement. If we place the house on the west side, we would have enough driveway width, but unfortunately the house would have to be redesigned.
Now we are considering what to do.
Is a 4m (13 feet) wide driveway enough for access to the garage?
Thank you for your opinions.

It’s not luxurious, but it should be sufficient for a standard car. Construction site access paths are 2.50 meters (8 feet) wide.
Some friends have a cul-de-sac property with a driveway of this size, and it works fine, although you might have to practice your reversing skills more often. If that means the house is better planned, it’s worth it. Where do you spend more time?

Do you have to make a turn within this 3m (10 feet) space?
If not, that’s not a problem. On one side of the house, there is a recessed garage, on the side where we also chose the minimum distance of 3m (10 feet). You basically have to drive about 6m (20 feet) through this 3m (10 feet) “corridor” (due to the neighbor’s fence and garden shed) to reach the garage. In terms of driving, I don’t find this challenging. Often visitors also park in front of the garage.
In the past, I had to reverse down a very steep slope and simultaneously navigate a slight curve because it was so steep that driving forward into the garage wasn’t possible without scraping the bottom. There was so little space that you couldn’t pull straight in front of the garage—you had to approach at an angle and could only straighten the car after the first 1.5m (5 feet) were inside the garage. I wouldn’t build something like that again, especially since reversing was difficult because the steep driveway limited visibility in the mirrors.
This sketch doesn’t help me either.
