Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble the garden shed soon, which has been lying in my front yard for two weeks now. The garden shed should have a natural wood appearance (but not gray over time). Therefore, we want to apply a clear wood stain. Before that, the wood needs to be impregnated. Alternatively, you can use a product that combines both in one coat.
From what I have heard, Osmo is a brand that is quite expensive but offers very good quality. Remmers is said to be similarly good. The garden shed seller offers "OSMO Wood Protection Oil Stain," which is an impregnation and stain in one and costs around 60€ for 2.5 liters (0.66 gallons), and it is supposed to be applied twice. Remmers offers the "Remmers HK Stain," which also combines everything in one product. It is labeled 3 in 1, meaning impregnation, primer, and stain, and probably should also be applied twice. It costs about half the price.
Does anyone have experience with these products?
One more thing: according to the garden shed instructions, you should assemble the shed first and then impregnate it. However, as I understand it, the tongue and groove joints would not be impregnated that way, and that might lead to rot starting there, right? Therefore, I would suggest it is better to impregnate/stain everything first and then assemble.
Best regards
