Hey everyone,

We are currently planning to replace all the windows and interior doors. Now we are considering whether to have everything done by a single contractor or to hire separate specialists for windows and doors. Does anyone have experience with turnkey solutions for projects like this? Is it easier to manage from an organizational standpoint?

I think co-extrusion is good, but it probably isn’t used very often?
Very good with Gealan in a wide range of colors at a good price. Otherwise, it’s a niche.

Thanks. My wife wants gray windows (inside and outside)
Bold choice. I find colored windows on the inside awful, especially with white walls. They always attract attention—even when you don’t want them to. So for me personally, it’s a no-go.

May I ask what is considered bad about modern PVC windows?

There are very good ones. Basically not bad at all.

Thanks. My wife wants grey frames (interior and exterior), and in the end, the extra cost for plastic plus foil covering compared to aluminum might not be that high...

The color should be available without a special order, so no additional charge.

I like co-extrusion, but I guess it’s not that common?

You can also get lift-and-slide doors or front doors in plastic, but there are better suited frame materials for these areas—namely aluminum.

With dark foil finishes, the plastic version is not ideal because it tends to warp when exposed to direct sunlight. We have four plastic patio doors — next time I would have those installed as front doors instead. Not a huge mistake, but as the saying goes, you build your first house for your enemy, your second for your friend, and your third for yourself. We still don’t have the last one. I am also leaning towards aluminum there.
