Hi everyone,

We just received the offer from our builder... They recommend using windows with a 6-chamber profile instead of the 5-chamber system profile. This additional upgrade costs around 2500€!

What are your thoughts? For your information: We are not building an energy-efficient house according to KfW standards...

Thanks for your help!

The energy savings are minimal if only the frame is changed. Without knowing for sure, I think the extra cost is more about the added "good feeling" rather than the actual additional material costs for the different type of window. Maybe a building expert can provide more insight on this.

Hmm... That’s really difficult... Because I think that’s quite a lot of money... But thanks anyway! 🙂

For us, the additional costs for thicker frames were lower, but it depends on details like window size, color, quantity, and so on. However, with better frames, our Uw value dropped significantly, since our thinner frames had a value around 1.2, while the thicker ones were below 1.0 (and therefore noticeably worse than the glass at 0.6).

For how many windows and with what specifications?

At first glance, the extra cost is certainly significant; however, selling 5-chamber profiles as standard is not ideal either. For comparison, we have 7-chamber profiles as standard, 82mm (3.2 inches) installation depth, with a Uw value below 1.0.

I also need to mention that we upgraded from 6 to 7 chambers, but of course, that means there is one more chamber.
