Baugreenhorn17 Sep 2021 07:57Hello everyone,
I am about to finalize the inspection. My windows (Kömmerling) make a cracking noise when opening – specifically the handle when operating it. However, this does not happen with all the windows. Even identical windows on different floors behave differently.
Do you know what might be causing this?
Thanks!

Is it more of a crackling sound or a click when it locks into the desired position?
What does the person who installed the windows say?

Frame installed under tensionThe overall frequency supports this cause, but there are several possible reasons – and they can occur simultaneously. They may only become noticeable when they add up to a certain extent. Baugreenhorn schrieb:
But that’s not the case with all windows. The common error suspected by @konibar would typically be distributed unevenly like that. However, Baugreenhorn schrieb:

The windows may also be poorly adjusted, both the sash within the frame and the locking pins. Delivering the product with just a simple "screwing in," instead of a proper installation that includes careful adjustment, is unfortunately the norm. As long as only about eighty percent of customers complain, installers consider the "quick and careless" approach a clever time-saving measure. Baugreenhorn schrieb:

It happens throughout the entire movement, from the starting position to the end position. Like a wheel of fortune. That means the tension shifts from one pin to the next "in a square loop," which indicates a twisting of the frame, most likely caused by the "misaligned screwing" suspected by @konibar.https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

Although I’ve also had difficult experiences with general contractors and their subcontractors, if the final inspection hasn’t taken place yet, it could be normal for the window installer to come back at the end to make adjustments. I mean, after the shell is weather-tight, many things still happen on the construction site: the house settles, plasterers work, screeders make a mess, painters and floor installers may still come. Then, perhaps, cleaning professionals arrive to clean in the proper sense of the word.
My father-in-law, who has been a window installer for over 30 years, also hasn’t adjusted my windows yet...
So maybe keep this in mind regarding the tone during the inspection...
