Hello everyone,

I am slowly but surely gathering all the necessary quotes. Currently, I’m a bit stuck when it comes to the windows.

I have three quotes from different manufacturers in total. The prices and appearance of two offers don’t differ much (around 3000 Euro) and the U-value is quite similar too, 0.69 compared to 0.67.

The third offer, however, is much cheaper, about 8000 Euro less, but the U-value here is only 0.74.

Otherwise, the windows are the same (PVC/aluminum).

My question is whether the difference from 0.74 to 0.67 can actually be noticed, or if it is so minimal that it never really pays off.

Just based on feeling, I would tend to choose the best U-value... but the question is whether it makes financial sense or if it’s just a design decision.

Thank you very much.

P.S.: The windows are not relevant for any KfW rating; all the windows meet the necessary requirements.

No, you won’t notice it. Neither in terms of comfort (like feeling colder when sitting near a window) nor in any significant measurable savings in heating energy.
I would definitely choose the cheaper offer, no question about it. Unless you’re building so high-end anyway that the €8,000 difference doesn’t matter.

Yes, the U-value is not the decisive factor. I would take a look at and feel the offered plastic profiles. Some really appear to be of high quality, while others remind me of social housing.

The tactile quality of the plastic profiles is clearly an important factor.

The two "better" manufacturers are Josko and Internorm, while the "more affordable" one is a smaller company seen at a trade fair... their windows do not appear as sturdy and elegant as those from the two Austrian manufacturers.

What is the structure of the panes, please? Also, please pay attention to the sound insulation....

Small window manufacturers are (almost) nonexistent nowadays; usually, there are some producers behind them working under Schüco or Kömmerling licenses, possibly as white label suppliers. I strongly recommend never considering windows individually and instead sourcing both the product and installation from the same provider. The references should be convincing in both areas. Price differences (8,000 euros is the difference—based on which reference value?) are often difficult for non-experts to understand. You can send me the offers without obligation—I’m having some trouble with private messages currently, but I have the same username at GMX (de) for email contact.
