ᐅ Why does my Billy bookcase wobble even though it is securely attached to the wall?

Hello everyone, a few days ago I mounted my Billy shelf to the wall, using all the supplied plugs and screws, and made sure the wall mounting was installed correctly. However, the shelf still wobbles noticeably, especially when I make slight movements on the top shelf board or open the door. It doesn’t seem to be the wood itself, which is stable, and the screws are tight. The mounting points are fixed into solid spots in the wall (concrete).

Does anyone have an idea why the shelf might wobble despite a solid wall fixing? Are there common installation mistakes I might have overlooked, or is this possibly normal for this model? I’m looking forward to your assessments and especially practical solutions.

It’s always interesting to see how many details a Billy shelf can have!

Exactly, I can definitely confirm that! When you look for the cause outside but actually something inside isn’t properly aligned, it can be really frustrating.

What helped me was patience during readjustment and the idea of slipping a piece of cardboard or thin wood under the base. Not complicated, but very effective.

In summary:

1. Are all screws and anchors correctly positioned and tightened?
2. Is there a third fixing screw at the upper section?
3. Is the back panel secure and free of damage?
4. Is the base perfectly level, or have small unevenness been compensated for?

These points form the basis for stability. If necessary, additional brackets or strips can be used for reinforcement.

If the shelf unit is very tall, a second row of upper fixings is also recommended.

Thank you all for the detailed suggestions! Tonight, I will proceed as follows:

- Install a third screw at the top to reduce leverage.
- Check the back panel for a secure fit and any possible damage.
- Inspect the base and shelf foot for any slight unevenness and, if necessary, insert small shims.

Your tips were very helpful, especially the idea of using corner brackets and improving the back panel, which I hadn’t considered before. I’ll get back to you once I’ve reassembled the shelf and report on the results.
