We are currently building a new house, and the plumber has installed the bathtub using a bathtub sealing tape. Now there is a disagreement between the tiler and the plumber about who is responsible for connecting and sealing the tape to the wall. The issue is less about the work itself and more about the warranty.

In our case, the tiler also carried out all the waterproofing work in the wet areas and took responsibility for the seal’s integrity.

Does that include the sealing around the bathtub as well?

Only the shower and the areas of the pre-wall installation system for toilet and washbasin. In addition, the entire floor beneath the tiles with a double coat of waterproofing (applied approximately 10cm (5 inches) up on all walls). The bathtub is freestanding in my case, so no separate waterproofing is necessary.

Bathroom construction site: blue waterproof coating on walls, shower tray with red border.

Renovation room with gray floor, green painted walls, and blue painter’s tape.

And like this with tiles:

Bathroom under renovation with dark floor tiles, white shower tray, and unfinished green-blue walls.

This is what a bathroom looked like after the second coat of paint. And who else but the tiler is supposed to do that? (By the way, this is not exactly my bathroom shown here; we have 4 bathrooms in the house for 4 separate residential units.)

For us, the tiler… just a few more words now
