Unfortunately, the Poroton brochure doesn’t specify which of the available options you should choose.
The plan is for a 230 sqm (2,475 sq ft) single-family bungalow with a pitched roof in northern Germany, featuring a brick veneer facade.
There are Poroton bricks with unfilled holes, with perlite filling, and with mineral wool filling.
These are then further optimized either for thermal insulation or for sound insulation.
Setting aside the different thermal conductivities, when should you choose which type of brick, filled or unfilled, for a cavity wall?
Is the difference in filling just a matter of price (is there actually any difference), or is it a matter of preference? Or do the different filling materials have distinct properties?
Best regards,
Jasper

Just in case you haven’t found an answer yet: Filled bricks (Poroton is just one brand among many on the market) are typically used for single-layer wall constructions (except for the unfilled T9). The other unfilled bricks (usually thinner) are used in double-layer wall constructions when an insulation layer is installed between the two layers. Makes sense so far?
Soundproofing is mainly relevant for multi-family houses. For single-family homes, it usually isn’t necessary to overdo it.
