I am currently furnishing my bedroom with the IKEA Brimnes series and find the design quite simple and functional. However, I’m considering which other furniture lines from the IKEA range might pair well with Brimnes to create a cohesive yet not too monotonous overall look. I am especially interested in how to combine different furniture collections in terms of color and style without it appearing disharmonious. Does anyone have experience or specific recommendations on which series complement each other particularly well? Ideas that harmonize both in color and material or surface texture would be especially appreciated.
The Brimnes series is well known for its clean lines and mostly painted white surfaces, which appear quite neutral. Based on my experience, the "Hemnes" series can be a good complement. It has a slightly more rustic style and offers wooden elements that add warmth. Especially in a whitewashed finish, it matches quite well with Brimnes without looking too contrasting. In terms of color, this combination adds a bit more depth without losing the bright and clean look. It is important, however, to avoid mixing too many different types of wood to keep the combination harmonious.
Great question! I love mixing different IKEA series because it lets you create something truly unique! 😄 For example, I combined my Brimnes with the Kallax range – mainly as shelving and storage – and it looks really fresh. The Kallax shelves have a very clean design and come in white, which together creates a modern and sleek look. Colorful accents come from small decorative items or colorful baskets in the Kallax units. This keeps the overall appearance varied but not too busy.
In my opinion, combinations that rely on a similar geometric design language and a neutral color palette are most advisable.
In addition to Hemnes, "Malm" is also a reasonable alternative to Brimnes. This series is minimalist, features smooth fronts, and is also available in white. The difference: Malm appears somewhat more modern and simpler. This allows you to add structural accents with Brimnes without causing any visual breaks.
It is important to carefully coordinate both series in terms of handle design and shade.

I think this whole “matches well” debate is overrated. Why not simply create clear contrasts? The Brimnes is plain enough, so a brown or black contrast is perfectly fine. Malm and Hemnes? Sure, if you want, but everything ends up combined in a conservative and safe way. Who always wants just white boxes? Dare to break the style! For example, using the “Lack” series as a side table or “Vittsjo” in black steel paired with Brimnes looks much more interesting. That adds character and, if you want, even a bit of industrial flair.
