Hello everyone,
I’m new here and happy to find an IKEA forum 🙂
I have a question right away and hope to get some help here.

For my home office at work, I need to add some extra storage or shelving for my materials (books, binders, flat A4-sized copied sheets, shallower boxes and containers up to 30cm (12 inches) wide) as soon as possible.
Since most of the existing furniture in the room is already from IKEA (estimated between 6 and 17 years old), I’m inclined to get the missing shelves from IKEA as well…

But which ones? I have looked at Billy, Kallax, ... Molger? on the IKEA website but I’m not sure which would make sense or if something else would be better… 😕

Here is a description of the room and what I need:
2D floor plan with A-F areas, doors, windows and furniture

Walls painted in soft yellow, large gray marbled (very old) PVC tiles on the floor, and a beige carpet with some coarse pattern (dark shapes) in one corner.

A) When you enter the room, on the left wall there is a half-height IKEA cabinet from 1999 (127cm (50 inches) high) in a light wood tone (real birch/maple veneer, darkened over time). The upper section behind the doors has four square compartments, below that there is a pull-out suspension file drawer.

Next to it is a black 3x3 cube shelf (height and width 114.5cm (45 inches), depth 39.5cm (15.5 inches)) with thick side panels and narrower medium brown interior shelves (I guess Expedit?).

After that, there is a gap about 45cm (18 inches) wide where I want to put a shelf (Question 1). The maximum dimensions for this spot are: 40cm (16 inches) wide and deep, 70-100cm (28-39 inches) high.

B) Then comes my rectangular desk in a light wood tone (a kind of coating, rather light beech color) with silver legs and

C) Next to it a mobile pedestal with five drawers, all in the same light wood tone as (A) (real birch/maple veneer, darkened), with silver-colored columns and wheels, also IKEA from 1999.

At a right angle to this is a double window, with a radiator below it.

Under the right window, next to the radiator towards the wall, I would like to have a shelf (Question 2), max. 30cm (12 inches) deep, max. 90cm (35 inches) high, and up to 60cm (24 inches) wide.

D) On the wall opposite the desk and the black shelf is another rectangular table (for practical work), identical to the desk (B), with the same light beech-colored coating.

After that on the wall there is a gap for another shelf (Question 3): max. 40cm (16 inches) wide, max. 40cm (16 inches) deep, max. 100-106cm (39-42 inches) high.

E) Finally, there is a seating area with two blue IKEA armchairs (like Tullsta) and a small round coffee table with one matte glass shelf in the same light darkened birch/maple wood tone as (A) and (C).

Between the back chair and basically next to the door, there is space for another shelf or closed cabinet (Question 4), max. 30cm (12 inches) deep, 50-60cm (20-24 inches) wide, and max. 80cm (31 inches) high.

I thought it would be best if the additional furniture is also in a light wood tone to match the first cabinet (A), the mobile pedestal (C) and the coffee table. I have the serial number from the mobile pedestal: 300.210.77, Made in Sweden, IKEA Systems B.V. 1999.
The large black shelf, the blue armchairs, and the gray floor already make the room a bit dark…
However, the existing furniture is 17 years old and has darkened accordingly, with a nice warm light wood tone.

Do you think something from the current IKEA range in birch would fit? Or something else? And what exactly would you recommend?

At first, I tried to describe the room, and then someone kindly made the sketch for me. Now I’ve shared both for you.

Thank you very much for reading and best regards!

There is Billy in birch veneer, 106 cm (42 inches) tall. Whether the darkening level matches your furniture, you would have to judge for yourself. The back panels are not veneered but covered with birch-patterned foil.
