I am planning a camera system from Reolink and am still looking for an intercom.
So far, I considered a video intercom. On the other hand, I will install a camera near the front door that can be accessed anytime via a central tablet.
So it might not make much sense to pay the extra cost for a video intercom. Or am I missing something important?
In general, I also find, for example, 1,500 euros for a Doorbird quite a steep price.
Do you have alternative recommendations for intercoms without a camera that are good quality but reasonably priced?
Thanks in advance.

Whether that becomes annoying in the long run depends on how quickly you can view the camera feed when needed. Technically, it is possible.
A decent camera will always cost money.
I would stick to well-known brands since the house will definitely stand for 30 years or more. I’ve often experienced that after a few years, there are no replacement parts available for flush-mounted boxes because they came from some obscure source on the internet.
I think Doorbird has improved a lot over the years. Siedle is sustainable, although expensive, but the advantage is that even after 20 years, there are upgrade kits available for older housings.
We have the ones from Baudisch because they work well with our smart home system, but even there I hope the flush-mounted box won’t need to be replaced.
It’s also important that most of these cameras have fixed lenses, so you should research how to place them beforehand.
These are things you need to consider.

Patricck

Seven198419 Oct 2020 09:59Okay, may I ask how much you paid for it?
I just got a brand-new Siedle system with a camera and mailbox for 1.5k.
It hurts, of course, but it is what it is. Once done, it’s done. As you say, these things really make a difference in whether the look and feel of the house appear high-quality or cheap.
I had to decide fairly quickly because I want to finish the rough installations during my vacation and the upcoming holidays this year. The plasterers are scheduled to come in later this year.

It hurts, but what can you do. It’s done once and for all. As you say, these things make a big difference in the end, whether the house looks and feels high-quality or cheap.
I had to decide pretty quickly because I want to finish the rough installations during my vacation and the following vacations this year. The plasterers are supposed to come this year as well. I know that feeling very well.
Camera including mailbox and illuminated, stamped house number cost me 1.6k.
It’s unbelievable how expensive these things are.
I’ve been told that mailboxes from a company starting with “R” can cost well over 3k, without any electronics. Crazy.
