Hello everyone, I am currently planning to redesign my IKEA Besta furniture and am considering which colors would be best, not only in terms of appearance but especially regarding durability. I am particularly interested in which shades have proven to be reliable for long-term use, without the color fading quickly, chipping, or becoming unattractive. It would also be helpful if the colors are timeless and work well in typical living spaces, which usually feature mostly natural or subdued tones. Does anyone have experience with specific types of paint or suitable shades for Besta furniture that they would recommend? Are there differences between matte, glossy, or satin finishes concerning durability? I would appreciate detailed tips and advice on special coatings or paints that work well on the materials used (chipboard with melamine or foil coating). Thanks in advance!

Dare to use color, but paint smart!

Absolutely! I would add that application technique should not be underestimated:

- Using a good spray gun or a fine roller produces a much more even finish than a brush.
- Especially with darker colors or pigments, every mistake or streak becomes very noticeable.
- It is also important to allow sufficient drying time between coats and, if needed, to lightly sand in between.

Regarding durability, especially if you don’t want to repaint every few years, high-quality paints with polyurethane (PU) components are simply the best.

This applies even to more unusual colors like dark blue, moss green, or brick red: good preparation + high-quality paints + sealing = long-lasting enjoyment of your project.
