Hello everyone,

We recently had a real shock when we came to inspect the construction site of our shell house in the evening.

In our kitchen, there is an exposed drain pipe running through the corner, coming from the bathroom located above the kitchen. The problem is that, based on the architect’s plan (which already included the plaster), we had our kitchen designed by a planner, purchased it, and already paid a deposit. Now, because of this pipe, we are missing 17 cm (7 inches) of space! So, we either have to redesign the kitchen or accept smaller cabinets in that corner. Neither option is acceptable to us and it is very frustrating. After asking our construction manager, he said nothing can be done because it is a load-bearing wall that cannot be opened up. The roofer also said this is a planning error.

Moving on to the bathroom. There is an exposed ventilation pipe running up to the attic.

I don’t want visible pipes in my expensive new build! This shouldn’t be standard practice nowadays. I am really disappointed and extremely frustrated—maybe in the basement, but in living areas??? 😡

What can we do?

Thank you in advance for your answers.
