One more question regarding ventilation systems, as I haven’t found anything about this topic in the forum yet.

Depending on whom you ask, air filters should be replaced every 3 to 12 months. Some say every 12 months with vacuuming in between every four weeks, while others recommend changing them every 3 months.

Original filters from the ventilation system manufacturer are outrageously expensive; the only apparent advantage seems to be that they are already pre-cut.

Filter mats of the corresponding grade can be found in many places online. These are much cheaper, but you have to cut the mats yourself.

For our Wolf ventilation system (Wolf CWL-300 with bypass), for example, we need a size of 500mm x 237mm x 17mm (20 inches x 9.3 inches x 0.7 inches).

The original part costs about €20 (two pieces included) online (item number 1668494). That makes a square meter price of about €84. Quite a sum...

If you search around a bit, you can easily find options at a fraction of that cost, with prices from €8 to €15 per square meter being a completely different range.

This note from a shop sounds interesting:

[...]
The mat has a progressive depth structure, meaning the fiber density changes across its cross-section:
Mount the denser filter side facing the clean duct side, and the coarser side toward the air source. The depth structure has the advantage that coarser particles are trapped on the outside and the mat does not clog as quickly. The service life is extended accordingly.
Technical data: shatterproof polyester fibers, silicone-free, flame retardant according to DIN 53438 F1, tested according to DIN 24185 and DIN EN 779, filter quality class according to prEN779 - G4 (EU4), weight - 220 g/m², color white

Does anyone have experience with this? Is it actually better?

I’m reopening the topic: who uses which filters?

Currently, the G4 filter in 2x1m size is available for 15 euros (about $16) on Ama...

Has anyone had warranty issues because they didn’t buy the mats directly from the manufacturer?

Where do you buy yours, and which ones do you use?

So far, we have cleaned our filters monthly. However, I also need to start looking around soon.

When I moved in, I bought 2 sqm (22 sq ft) of G4 filter mat, if I’m not mistaken... I estimate it will last about another year... most systems notify you when they need a new filter mat...
