ᐅ The window frame is bulging. What does that mean?

Hello everyone,

my sliding door has a downward bow. What do you think about that? Unfortunately, it’s difficult to capture the bow in a photo. I gave it a try.

The frame sounds a bit hollow when tapped.

Thank you!

That's what he means. It’s a bulge because on the right side of the picture, the edge already starts to rise again.

So, how exactly is it:

Is the door leaf or the frame bowed?
(use a straightedge)

It’s common for some areas to sound hollow depending on the construction.

Has it been like this from the start (installation error?) or only recently (wood core warped)?
Are the screws in the frame (drilled crosswise into the reveal) possibly overtightened or too loose?

Does the door leaf stick when closing?
Does it close earlier or later at the top than at the bottom (twisted installation)?

Hi,

the photos are nice to look at, but without a reference (such as a straightedge) they are largely meaningless. Yes, something appears to be crooked in the photos. But whether this reflects reality or is just a distortion caused by the phone camera lens is anyone’s guess. Especially with close-up shots, even high-quality lenses tend to produce distortions. A phone camera usually has lenses of glass shard quality, and the images are then “corrected” to appear straight again. This often no longer corresponds to reality.

So do yourself a favor and hold something really straight up to it, preferably with a spirit level.

Best regards,

Andreas

We experienced this a few days after the window installation because the window fitter installed the windows too tightly. The windows were then replaced.
