Hello everyone,

As mentioned above, we want to get a robotic lawn mower to start the spring season.
Which ones do you use, recommend, or avoid, and why?
Does it have to be a Husqvarna, or is a Worx also good enough? Why one and not the other?
I’m very interested in hearing about your experiences.

Best regards

I believe that manufacturers are gradually starting to address these kinds of issues in their software. At least, I know that Worx now offers a "Save the Hedgehogs" feature, where the robot only operates outside of dusk and nighttime hours.

Are there any models that come with a built-in "hedgehog protection" feature?
I’m not aware of any, even though manufacturers always emphasize how safe their devices are. We have had a robotic mower for almost eight years and live right next to a forest, so there are many hedgehogs around. Still, nothing has ever happened during that time, although the mower usually runs during the day according to an automatic schedule.

Our local village soccer club has now also purchased a robot. On top for comparison, a standard 0.5 liter (17 fl oz) rosé glass. With 24,000 m² (6 acres) per day it’s just perfect for a somewhat larger front yard 😀

We have the same size at our club. Just sit on it and enjoy the ride. :p

In the past 10 years, I have seen exactly 1 hedgehog in the area. So, I think it largely depends on the location of the property and whether hedgehogs are present at all. In my opinion, the problem is more theoretical, although I am familiar with the pictures from hedgehog rescue centers.

Nevertheless, just let the robot mower run during the day and that’s it. It’s no effort at all to simply leave it at the charging station during dusk and night.

However, it can’t clean the joints yet, as you can see in the picture. 😀

Robots equipped with additional ultrasonic sensors slow down almost to a complete stop. They reverse when they encounter slight contact. However, such features are mostly found only in premium models.

Mowers should be sized large enough to complete the job within a few hours.

When it comes to hedgehog safety, it is important to differentiate between mowers with large, fixed blades and those with small, "loose" blades that only cut a few millimeters. The latter pose no problem at all. No hedgehog can fit underneath, and the mower stops immediately…
