Who spends €15,000 on furniture???

We do – or at least close to that.

- New sofa €3,500
- New dining table €2,000
- 8 new dining chairs €3,200
- New box spring bed €1,500
and plenty of lamps, mirrors, etc.

I don’t find €15,000 that surprising now.
How much have you spent on new furniture?

Waiting it out? Quite literally... :p

I find that difficult – unfortunately, we’ve already done that for half a year as well

For 6 months, the upholstery on the chairs has been peeling, and of all days, today they don’t look good anymore 😀. Once you notice it, you can’t overlook it. My wife would sew a "temporary slipcover" and look forward to the postponed joint "hunt."

No, they’ve actually started peeling since Easter, but only very slightly and just one chair. When the second showed symptoms, I started gathering and working on knitting patterns and fabrics for slipcovers and covers. I don’t like slipcovers themselves at all. In November, we realized the peeling had actually worsened somewhat... but at that time, the kitchen expansion was underway. If you look at the left seating area, it only becomes noticeable overnight.

It may have peeled off completely by the day after tomorrow. I’m addressing it here now because I have time, and @Bertram100 encouraged me with her kitchen sofa, plus the sunlight inside the house motivates us to replace them quickly :p

SHOW US YOUR CHAIRS 😀

I think I need to revive this thread.
My great Kare chairs are falling apart. Not the frame, not the upholstery... the faux leather is deteriorating. It’s peeling off completely. What causes that? Should I have been conditioning them regularly? My husband thinks it’s because of the zippers on the bottom of my pants, since I often rest one leg up...
Anyway, new chairs are needed. Reupholstering isn’t an option because of the shape.

And now, all without testing them out by sitting 😎 Well, I already know the dimensions and angles that matter. Cantilever chairs are very comfortable. But somehow I can’t decide. I have already ended up looking at the Dutch suppliers...

Does anyone have experience with cheap velvet covers? Is velvet just velvet? Or is there cheap velvet that only looks like velvet (velour fabric)? Sort of like how eco-leather is now the new term for faux leather, but there seem to be differences there too. I haven’t kept up with this kind of thing since Corona 🙁

Since it’s faux leather, it’s actually good that you didn’t condition it. That would have only transferred the oil onto the clothes you wear while sitting on the chairs. I suspect the plasticizers in the synthetic material have evaporated, making the imitation leather brittle. So better not use faux leather anymore.

I was lucky to buy the Vitra EA 207 Soft Pad (leather cushions) very cheaply from my employer’s branch closure. Designed by Ray and Charles Eames. I definitely wouldn’t have bought them at the regular price: €2,776 (each!!)
