Who spends €15,000 on furniture???

We do – or at least close to that.

- New sofa €3,500
- New dining table €2,000
- 8 new dining chairs €3,200
- New box spring bed €1,500
and plenty of lamps, mirrors, etc.

I don’t find €15,000 that surprising now.
How much have you spent on new furniture?

We bought exactly the same items and ended up with almost exactly €15,000 (around $16,000). Our chairs were €50 (about $55) cheaper each, but the couch was a bit more expensive. So that fits well and doesn’t seem unusual?

By the way: which chairs did you choose?

No, it’s fine as it is. Our table and chairs are about the same, the bed was more expensive, and the sofa significantly cheaper (but deliberately not a huge piece because of kids who might get sick – it just isn’t worth it yet). The coffee table and TV stand were custom made and aren’t available in these dimensions, functions, or materials elsewhere.

The value (or purchase price, let's put it that way) of our furniture clearly exceeds the value of both cars combined.
To each their own.

My wife takes care of this for us and does all the mixing. Ikea Bonde, finds from the Danish furniture store, second-hand dark oak pieces alongside white ones, a rarely stylish teak table with a slate top, built around 1967, and so on. None of it was expensive; she organizes everything for next to nothing, and then it needs to be refinished. Sometimes just polishing or a coat of matte finish from Clou is enough, sometimes a new glaze... This is how we live, surrounded by a mix of all kinds of things, and people who visit us say, well, I wouldn’t dare, but somehow it looks good.

We searched for a solid oak table with a central pedestal, 240cm x 100cm (94 inches x 39 inches), for a long time. It’s simply not possible to find anything under 3500 euros.

Take a look at hülsta. (Final price = list price minus 20%).
Solid oak is really "heavy" and definitely hard to find.

So, I eventually found something at an online retailer. If you search for "solid wood table 24" on Google, you'll find it. We were particularly impressed by the Feetone model. We also found some nice chairs there. I would have preferred a large, round table, but that gets really big and expensive for 8 people, so we had to go with a rectangular one. Well, I’m drifting off-topic.
