Who spends €15,000 on furniture???

We do – or at least close to that.

- New sofa €3,500
- New dining table €2,000
- 8 new dining chairs €3,200
- New box spring bed €1,500
and plenty of lamps, mirrors, etc.

I don’t find €15,000 that surprising now.
How much have you spent on new furniture?

Chairs are unfortunately expensive.
But if you look around a lot, including outside of furniture stores, you can find a chair for around €100 (about $110).
It also looks good to mix many old chairs. Often, you can refresh them well with a new coat of paint, reupholster them, or bring them to a high gloss with furniture polish. You don’t need an old timber-framed house for this; even in a modern new build, it’s a way to create something unique.

I am also well below 15,000 euros, with the living room being the most expensive part. Design is really a matter of personal taste; for example, the chairs posted earlier would end up in my basement as climbing aids or something like that. Apart from that, I also made a mistake: don’t buy rocking chairs and robot vacuum cleaners... they don’t work well together.

Now I have to laugh, because I have that exact combination of a rocking chair and a robot vacuum.

I have two expensive models where this doesn’t work well. The chair legs are too flat to trigger the sensors, but high enough to stop every third crossing...

€3200 for chairs is quite a lot. I thought that €200 per piece was already expensive.

- Solid oak dining table with telescopic leaf extension up to 2.46m (8 feet) €600 (display model)
- Bed with slatted frame and mattresses €1600
- Nightstands €0 (after a complaint, we were simply credited the money :eek )
- Ceiling-high sliding door system for the wardrobe approx. €600
- 4 meters (13 feet) of Pax wardrobe for the dressing room including interior fittings approx. €1100

This covers the biggest expenses. The laundry room in the utility room was included in our kitchen budget.

All the little things add up. Some lamps are DIY/internet/Ikea. Double roller blinds, privacy films, pleated blinds, wall decorations and pictures, shelves for the pantry... But we are nowhere near €15,000.

The next bigger project will be a platform in the stairwell for a climbing plant that is supposed to grow from the basement ceiling height up to the first floor. And generally, other greenery is still missing.

Do you have a link, photo, tip, or something? Mainly regarding the wardrobe door.

Not quite finished yet. We planned it this way to avoid having anything left standing around. A Pax wardrobe will be placed behind it.

The ceiling track will simply be screwed to the ceiling, and the floor rail will be glued to the tiles with silicone.
