Hello everyone,

we are currently renovating an older house we recently purchased, built in 1965, doing all the work ourselves. The entire house has already been gutted, and now the rebuilding phase is starting 🙂 We have a 30cm (12 inches) double-layer brick wall, new windows will be installed, and an external insulation system will be applied. I have drawn the bathroom/WC in CAD so you can get an idea—it’s the full setup, basically :-)

Despite having two windows, the issue of mold in the bathroom is causing us some concern.

We removed the old straw mat ceiling (in hindsight maybe a mistake, as it was very dry, but we wanted to be cautious), yet we kept the furring strips of the suspended ceiling. As shown in the photo, the ceiling consists of reinforced concrete beams, concrete blocks, and vault-shaped hollow core elements.

New construction plan:
We will most likely install a decentralized ventilation system in the bathroom or at least an exhaust fan (on the wall between the two windows).
Additionally, I would like to have a suspended ceiling with recessed spotlights between the concrete beams. I am open regarding materials.
Do I need a vapor barrier in there, or would a vapor retarder be sufficient?
What would be the recommended general build-up?
Above the ceiling is the attic, which is planned to be finished in about 1–2 years (currently only some insulation attempts by previous owners—will be redone).

Best regards from the south!
