Hello everyone,
during my house construction, the sidewalk slabs were damaged by excavation work carried out by the contractors.
The city already asked me back in November 2019 to restore the sidewalk to a "safe" condition.
Over the past two years, there were several reasons why I couldn’t focus on the sidewalk... but this year it’s scheduled to be paved along with my driveway, etc.

Now a resident reported me to the city and, of course, also took photos.
As a result, I received a letter from the city giving me a 10-day deadline to repair the sidewalk.

10 days?
Is this deadline period legally valid? I will call a few companies and ask, but I don’t think I’ll get an on-site appointment within the next 10 days.

And yes, maybe I neglected the issue, but I really intended to finally take care of it this year.
What would you do?

Request an extension of the deadline?

Okay, you’re right, nothing has happened in the last 2.5 years. A quote was requested back then, but it was never carried out.
However, I have never received a deadline before. This is the first deadline, and it’s only 10 days. A company just told me they can’t even manage to send a quote within 10 days 🙂
Thanks for your opinion

What about doing it yourself? A few paving slabs don’t sound too complicated.
Maybe you could take a photo of it?

Wasn’t the excavation company supposed to respond here?

No. The contact person is always the client. Why would they do anything?

I was told I’m not allowed to do it myself.
It has to be done by a professional company.
This concerns roughly 23m² (250 sq ft) of walkway.

What exactly do you mean? I’m a bit confused 🙂
I mean the 10-day deadline for contractors. I think even as Chancellor, you wouldn’t stand a chance there. 😀

They can be the contact person, but the liability lies with the responsible parties. Our landscape contractor was quite cautious regarding the city’s curbstones. When I asked why, he said the city imposes heavy fines for leg injuries.

It’s good for you that your landscaping contractor is so careful. However, the client is always the one responsible.

To be honest, post #8 makes a lot of sense.

I’ll put it in simpler terms for the original poster, since they seem to have missed it: "Whoever causes the damage doesn’t need to worry about mockery."
