Hello,

I am currently renovating my small house in Italy and would like to move the kitchen to a different room. The kitchen used to be in a tiled room, but the previous owner started removing a partition wall. I plan to connect the two rooms, but the resulting space would be about 50m² (540 sq ft), which is more than necessary for a kitchen. The most practical solution would be to move it to the adjacent room, where water pipes and a sewer connection are already installed.

However, the floor there is covered with unglazed tiles (more or less bricks fired in tile shape). I would prefer not to replace these tiles since the floor underneath consists of a rubble fill over a vaulted structure (built around the 1600s?), meaning that partially removing the fill, installing steel mesh, pouring concrete, etc., would be required.

Can you recommend a material to treat such tiles to prevent grease and similar substances from penetrating? Something along the lines of garage floor sealers, but suitable for individual tiles?

Best regards

I sealed my travertine tiles in the hallway with Lithofin sealant. You can probably use that as well.
