Hello,
maybe I can get some tips here on how to make a large living room cozy?
It measures 6 by 5 meters (20 by 16 feet), so it has a fairly square layout.
There is only a window wall along one side, and on the opposite side there is a door, but rather towards the corner.
A dining area is not an option because there is a separate dining room.
At first, I thought about a reading corner, but if someone watches TV at the same time, it bothers me.
Do you have any ideas?
Best regards, Gerda

Hi Gerda,
I don’t like rooms that are that large. My parents also had a living room that big. There was a piano, a reading corner, and on the other side, a kind of music area set up. In between was the main living area with seating and a TV. I always felt a bit lost and kept looking around to see if someone else was in the room. 🙂
Maybe you could divide the space with room dividers? That way, you could create different areas that work well.

Annegret-116 Feb 2014 07:39I personally love large rooms and think it’s great when the whole family gets together. We have a TV corner with a large corner sofa and two armchairs. Then there is a lovely flower corner with lots of flowers. On the other side, there is a large bookshelf accompanied by two armchairs for reading. I find that very cozy.
I immediately think of high heating costs when I hear about large rooms. 🙂 Especially if you spend a lot of time in the room, it might be ventilated more often, so you have to heat it again. Even if you are alone in the room, you can’t just heat one corner.
Otherwise, I would prefer to divide the room because I find it cosier that way. Although 30 square meters (320 square feet) isn’t that big yet.

Richard-116 Feb 2014 09:23It's not that big, though. One aspect is the heating costs, and I also don't like it when everyone is crowded into one room. I prefer smaller rooms where I can retreat and have some privacy. Naturally, that’s not possible in such a large room.
