Hello,
we have not yet made a final decision regarding a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery.
Regardless, I am interested in whether it is better to install round or oval ducts, and whether they should be made of plastic or metal.
Furthermore, I wonder how it is ensured that the ducts remain sufficiently clean (filters will not catch everything) to prevent "dirty" air from being blown into the rooms?
Thanks & regards

use rectangular flat metal ducts, as they do not build up static electricity. Replace the filter once a year.

The key is proper planning, choosing the right filters, and their cleaning or replacement – the type of filter used… preventing condensation inside the ducts combined with appropriate insulation and routing, ideally avoiding areas that are or become cold zones.
Also, if cleaning is important to you, there are decentralized units where you can easily remove and clean the heat exchangers yourself, even in a dishwasher.
