Hello everyone, I am planning a move in the next few weeks and own a Billy bookshelf from IKEA that I need to pack securely. My question is: What methods or materials are best suited for packing a Billy bookshelf for a move to ensure it is well protected against scratches, breaks, or other damage? I am especially interested in whether it is advisable to completely disassemble the shelf or if it can be safely transported assembled with proper padding. Also, are bubble wrap, blankets, or special boxes recommended? I’m looking forward to your experiences and tips!

Exactly, that's how I do it too: bubble wrap for impact protection and furniture blankets to cover everything. This provides great protection and also keeps the entire shelf safe from moisture and dirt.

That sounds really great! 🙂 With this combination, you’ll be very well prepared – your Billy bookshelf will celebrate the move intact! 🙂 I wish you lots of success!

Many thanks to everyone for the helpful and practical answers! Your tips have really helped me plan the move properly and protect my Billy shelving unit as best as possible. I will definitely fully disassemble the shelf, pack the boards lying flat and well padded, collect the screws in bags, and secure the edges with foam. I will gladly update you after the move to share how it went!
