Hello everyone, I am planning a move in the next few weeks and own a Billy bookshelf from IKEA that I need to pack securely. My question is: What methods or materials are best suited for packing a Billy bookshelf for a move to ensure it is well protected against scratches, breaks, or other damage? I am especially interested in whether it is advisable to completely disassemble the shelf or if it can be safely transported assembled with proper padding. Also, are bubble wrap, blankets, or special boxes recommended? I’m looking forward to your experiences and tips!
Thank you very much for the detailed tips! Since I have had little experience with transporting bulky furniture so far, I am also interested to know if anyone has ever experienced damage to disassembled boards due to insufficient packaging – what exactly went wrong?
Of course, I want to avoid boards cracking or getting scratched during transport.

One last question about padding materials: Are there specific types of padding you would particularly recommend? Should I use bubble wrap or thick blankets? Or is a combination advisable?
For padding, bubble wrap is particularly effective due to its shock-absorbing properties. Furniture blankets provide protection against scratches and dirt but offer less cushioning. Therefore, a combination of both is ideal: bubble wrap first, followed by blankets as the outer protective layer.
