For our windows (living and dining room), one-piece aluminum roller shutters about 2.8m long (9 feet) were originally planned and ordered.
We were surprised when two-part roller shutters with guide rails fixed directly to the window frame (plastic) were installed for each window.
We can't really come to terms with this solution.
Reversing this would mean sealing the mounting holes of the middle roller shutter guide rails with plugs or covering them with a strip (which would also need to be attached). --> This is not acceptable from a visual standpoint.
Additionally, the electrician only installed the motor housings on one side.
No motors or switches were planned or installed on the other side.
At this point, we are almost ready to accept and leave it as it is.
Now, my question is what kind of compensation we can reasonably request from the roller shutter specialist company.
Could you please help us get a good reference point for what might be possible here?

The question in dispute is also how reasonable the solution to the problem is.

But: is it confirmed that the delivery was incorrect, and what is specified in the construction plans?

The problem is that rework will be necessary anyway. How do you plan to lower the other side if no electrical installations are planned there? Manually, or is it not possible to lower it at all? Have you already tried to discuss this?

Hello xdiver,

Where is the construction taking place? I ask because you indicated the country/state as “abroad.”
This could, of course, also have an impact on the legal situation.

Otherwise, I would rely on the scope of work and insist on achieving the contractual condition as agreed.

Ultimately, it should not be your problem if the wrong materials were used and caused damage (holes in the frame) to your windows.

A purely visual issue is one thing, but how is the electrical function of the roller shutters supposed to be restored now?

Best regards,

Dirk

The offer we accepted definitely specifies one-piece roller shutter slats in aluminum.

We also need electric motors for the other side. When I noticed this and discussed it with the architect, it wasn’t a problem... The electrician just has to come back. <-- Architect’s statement. The cables would run along the outside... The walls haven’t been plastered yet.

By the way, the electrician visited the construction site afterwards and noticed:
Oh, two-piece roller shutter slats per window... hmm, these should be one-piece... Should I ask again... Nah, they did it right and I missed it, and nobody noticed *YAY*... Better finish up quickly while no one says anything.
Without asking, he immediately prepared everything... power cables, switch cables, etc.
All I can say is: you can’t beat self-motivated workers!
This could still all be reversed... That’s no problem either!

Have you already tried to talk to them?
We did try to have a conversation, and they admitted fault. I then requested a written statement and received it. A confession of the mistake is included.
Now they have offered us a 200 € discount (on an order value of about 5000 €)... Additional electrical work, two extra motors, switches, etc. have not been mentioned at all. I thought I was in the wrong movie.
If you mess up, you have to own up to it!

Another alternative to the above is to have the window frames replaced at the cost of the party responsible.
But I see so many potential issues with that (removing the frames, since the inside is plastered, sealing work, etc.) that I have zero interest in pursuing that option.

After weighing everything, we are almost ready to accept it reluctantly.
But we do expect appropriate goodwill from the contractor!
As mentioned, the question remains: what is realistic here and what is not.
Thanks a lot for your help—I honestly don’t know how to proceed here.
