Hello everyone.
Next to our garage, we have a trumpet vine plant.
Recently, there are also small children in the neighborhood.
Would it be better to remove the plant?
As far as I know, trumpet vine plants are toxic.
Could I be held legally responsible if I leave the plant and the children get poisoned, or are these plants not that dangerous after all?
Hope someone can help me ...
Best regards, Flori

hi flori,
children can definitely be poisoned. The angel’s trumpet is one of the most poisonous potted plants out there. You should really place the plant somewhere that is out of reach for small children if you want to be completely safe. You can explain it to older children, but small kids playing in the garden are truly at risk.

- Approximately 100,000 children suffer poisoning accidents every year
- 10,000 of these need hospital treatment
- In 500 cases, the condition is life-threatening
- Poisonings caused by plants are the third most common reason
Therefore, I would say: it’s better to remove poisonous plants from the garden when children play there.

Yes, definitely with toddlers. An alternative would be a sufficient fence around the plant. Or a hedge would probably also look quite nice.

Hi,
I do believe that older children can definitely understand if you explain to them that this or that plant is poisonous. I also think that poisoning cases almost only happen when children are not informed or when they are too young to be aware of the danger. 🙄
