ᐅ Parquet or Cork Flooring for a New Floor? Considering Children in the Household

-We want to install new flooring in three rooms (2 children’s bedrooms and an office). Currently, all three rooms have carpet. The rooms are heated with radiators, so there is no underfloor heating.
The new flooring should be durable since the children (7 and 4 years old) play on the floor a lot.
Which type of flooring is best suited for this? Hardwood flooring or cork?
Thank you very much for your recommendations!

However, you must pay close attention to the abrasion resistance group, especially for the office area (office chair casters!). The abrasion resistance group is indicated by symbols on the packaging or at the point of sale.
This would be the symbol for "suitable for office chair casters."

Kurt1985-126 Feb 2015 15:31Hello,
I’m revisiting this question. I have experience with both types of flooring.
The first consideration is, of course, the cost, as hardwood flooring is much more expensive than cork. For the children’s room, hardwood is also too delicate, especially when kids play with toy cars, which can quickly scratch the wood. So we only installed hardwood flooring in the living area.
In the children’s room, we chose a cork floor. However, we bought it untreated. To protect it, I applied hard wax oil.

Karl-Steffen-17 Dec 2015 09:44As mentioned before, both options have advantages and disadvantages. It is important to weigh these carefully, and the price should not be underestimated. I also consider cork flooring to be a good choice, especially as an alternative for children's rooms.
