ᐅ Parapet height of fixed kitchen window: 1.35 m?

We are planning a long fixed window element above the kitchen countertop. The architect has designed a sill height of 1.35 m (4 ft 5 in). I am only 1.60 m (5 ft 3 in) tall. Somehow, I can’t really picture it well. I do like that the window doesn’t start directly at the countertop, but is this height common or practical?

I’m saying it – charming. Only, I (selfishly) wouldn’t like that the parents have to share the small bathroom while the kids have the wellness bathroom. And the desk area with open space above (as I interpret it on the upper floor) isn’t really suitable for serious home office work (but it seems there is a basement anyway).

At least you’re kid-friendly 😉 Can you still make the window in child 2’s room a sliding window downward to have a cabinet niche above?

And since your architect doesn’t seem very familiar with bathrooms: the bathroom above the kitchen should be carefully soundproofed (waste pipes etc.).

Are those stairs outside leading to the entrance?

So the older child will still get two rooms with a bathroom in the basement (UG), which is why there is the slope next to the bedroom and living room on the left. That’s probably why we will keep junior 2 on the upper floor and use the ground floor (EG) as an office / home office. The desk on the upper floor is only an emergency office for me. The entrance is on ground level except for a small flight of stairs.

@Annettsche .. I would consider having the sliding door access to the terrace—the part that opens—located in the kitchen area. That way, you can go straight through from there without having to maneuver around the table.

Thanks for the tip, I will pass it on.

Regarding the sliding door access, @kbt09 is right (but not about the unfair accusation that I wouldn’t clean up my mess). Viewed this way, you could also slide the patio door in the living room to the right... who knows, maybe a nice retro yucca palm will end up in the upper left corner.

You have to consider that we are over 45, so what’s wrong with a yucca palm?:p

Me too...! With the same reasoning 🙂
... by the way, I prepare and chop next to the stove with the washed food facing the guests, TV, or garden view 🙂 The sink is then used again when cleaning up. Or my husband washes up in the meantime. But for me, it’s strictly separated. I think everyone does it however they prefer 🙂

There are little creatures crawling out :P
Regarding the toilet: make sure you can’t be seen at night when you need to use it (-> door/hallway/walking path)

By the way, I’m also not a fan of awkward angles, but where it fits, it should be that way. I think it turned out well!

I would have thought 30 or under (and I’m just wondering why you don’t recognize the 80s retro then).

It would probably be too much to repeat Rose Nylund’s story about old Mrs. Hickenlöper now, so I’ll just keep it brief and suggest looking back.

I solved it differently—I moved out. 😀
