ᐅ Painting a Garage Floor

We are building a new house and have decided to go with a prefabricated garage.

To make the garage floor more resistant to things like saltwater in winter, a coating was recommended. I would now like to apply this myself. What type of paint would be suitable for this? Can I use any standard 2-component epoxy resin coating? Are there any suppliers that come particularly recommended? I have also found coatings designed for industrial or workshop floors. Are there differences compared to coatings meant for garage floors?

Where did you buy it? The suppliers I contacted directly emphasized that their products are always fresh (however, they did point out this issue and the need to stir the paint).

The next day when I painted, the paint had settled again. I think this is normal and does not reflect the quality of the filling process.

I’ll send you the shop details via private message, as I’m not sure if posting links is allowed here. So far, the paint has made a good impression, but a final assessment can probably only be made in the coming weeks or months.

The accessories I ordered at the same time were of mixed quality. The rollers, costing about 10 EUR, felt overpriced and rather poor quality because small tufts kept coming off during painting. The brushes also shed quite a few bristles, which was somewhat frustrating.

The phone consultation from the shop was among the best I have experienced. In contrast, the advice at local paint suppliers or stores was rather poor. It mostly consisted of printing out the manufacturer’s brochure. This was also the reason I chose to order online. Price-wise, the online paint was mid-range compared to local suppliers.

The painting is now complete.

The first two pictures show the first coat of paint after drying for one day. As you can see, there are still some paint spots visible. Apparently, that was not the best method. Perhaps they would have disappeared after the paint fully cured. But, as mentioned, the ambient temperature was not ideal. For the final coat, I poured the paint directly from the bucket, painted one section, and then poured more paint. Since the ambient temperature was lower than the previous days, this apparently wasn’t a problem.

The last two pictures show the second coat of paint after drying for one day. I am quite satisfied with the result. You can still see some roller marks and directions. Maybe these will fade once the paint is fully cured. But since it’s only the garage floor, it’s not a big issue.

Hello everyone,

I am also about to work on my garage. So, my question is... how long does the screed need to dry before applying this coating in the garage? I only have 4m² (43 square feet) in a utility room that I want to coat.

Would it also be possible to use this coating in the bathroom for floors and shower walls?
